Epic win for UNC over N.C. State in Chapel Hill…The Dean Dome crowd was rocking big time for the Heels 76-65 “STATE”ment over the Pack. Hats off to Reggie Bullock who was on fire, hitting 5 out of 12 from three point range with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Marcus Paige outplayed one of the best point guards in America: Lorenzo Brown with eight assists and ZERO turnovers…the highly touted McDonald’s All-American finally played as advertised coming out of Marion, Iowa.
How bad was C.J. Leslie versus UNC? The ACC “PRE-Season” Player of the Year only had 6 points on 3 of 8 shooting…Moreover, the Heels outscored State 66-39 when Leslie was ON the court…one word: EMBARRASSING. When he was out of the game, the Wolfpack actually outscored Carolina 26-10. If State doesn’t validate the pre-season hype in March, more than likely it will be Leslie’s lack of heart.
The biggest upset of the weekend was Wake Forest knocking off the #2 ranked Miami Hurricanes 80-65 at the Joel in Winston-Salem. The Deacons win ended The U.’s 14-game winning streak. Undoubtedly, it was the biggest win of the Jeff Bzdelik era which might not the best thing for die hard Deacon fans.
FIVE-time Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson rebounded from a horrific 2012 winning his second ever Daytona 500. Unfortunately for Johnson, the real story of Daytona was Danica Patrick living up to the hype by finishing eighth. It was the highest finish ever for a woman. She actually led 5 laps of the race which was also a first for a female driver. On NASCAR’s biggest stage, she proved she’s not just some flash in the pan chick on Super Bowl Go Daddy commercials…
Top 5 markets for Daytona 500 ratings: Greensboro (21.2), Indianapolis (20.5), Charlotte (20.3), Jacksonville (19.6), and Dayton (19.1)…Daytona 500 had a 19.5HH rating in Charlotte but got as high as 26.2 near the finish
The Daytona 500 drew a 10.0 overnight rating, which is up 30% over last year and best overnight rating for Daytona 500 since 2006…
The Charlotte Bobcats are now 20-102 since the start of the 2011-12 season…That is NBA Futility at its WORST!
